WOW! A groom-to-be got cold feet on the day of his $35,000 wedding. But instead of wasting all the expensive, catered food, the bride-to-be’s mother decided to turn the fancy feast into a wholesome dinner for less fortunate families. Feeding the homeless was an obvious choice for mother Kari Duane “When I found out Monday that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course this would be something that we would do to give back”. Opening it’s doors to the poor on Saturday, Citizen Hotel in Sacramento was jam-packed with hungry & happy people who enjoyed salmon, gnocchi & other delicacies. The first woman to sit down for a meal explains she was living in a shelter because she’s too elderly to find work. After her initial arrival the hall saw a flood of people coming in to eat – grandparents, families, children and even newborns were filling their bellies with thousands of dollars worth of food. One thankful man in attendance, Rashad Abdullah, brought his family to the unexpected feast, saying: “When you’re going through a hard time and a struggle for you to get out to do something different and with your family, it was really a blessing”. Rasahd’s wife was forever grateful for the bride-to-be’s generous mother’s idea:  “To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind,” she said.  Kari Duane’s heartbroken daughter stayed home as her 120-guest & $35,000 wedding fell apart on the day of. Her mom said, “I feel a lot of heartache and heartbreak for her, but I will take away something good from this—I will”. As for the non-refundable honeymoon? Mom & daughter decided to jet-set to Belize together!
