The provincial government is investing almost 15 million dollars into the local film industry.

12.8 million dollars will go to 21 film and television production projects, while Cultural Industries Ontario North and Northern Ontario Film Studious will get over 600 thousand dollars each.

Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault says film, television and music are a huge part of the growth plan for the North.

Associate Executive Director of CION, Tammy Frick says these types of investments have changed the scope of the local industry.

CION was developed in 2012 and deals with the business side of music, film and television in the North bringing film companies like the one who shot Born To Be Blue with Ethan Hawke to the Sudbury area.

Productions include feature films and several new TV shows both live action and animated.

The funds are provided by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, and since 2003 the NOHFC has created more than 26 thousand jobs in Northern Ontario.
