The talk on trash has heated up in past few weeks as city council decides if changes should be made to garbage collection when the waste management contract is up in 2016.

There have been talks of going to a two bag limit or moving to bi-weekly trash pick up, as a 2014 audit says about 70 percent of Sudbury residents put out about one bag per week.

Mayor Brian Bigger says in cities where changes like this are made, there is always consultation, which is what they do before any decision is made.

Bigger says this will not be a one size fits all approach.

City staff say reducing trash pick up would not only save the city money, it would also extend the life of landfill sites.
