A local construction company plead guilty to Ministry of Labour charges and was fined after a trench wall collapsed on an employee.

In November 2016, a crew with R.M. Belanger Limited was excavating a trench to access underground pipes on Ramsey Lake Road when one of the trench walls collapsed causing a worker to be partially buried and suffer leg injuries.

The Ministry of Labour has fined the company 125 thousand dollars and a supervisor five thousand dollars.

The Ministry determined the walls of the trench had not been properly sloped and the site supervisor had not ensured the worker had protective devices.

There is a 25% victim fine surcharge.
