No fees and no permits for fires in your back yard…that was the decision made by Sudbury City Council last night.

One idea to offset the cost of the balanced budget last year was to implement a fire permit that would cost $50.00 for the first year and $25.00 each year after that, however a backlash from residents forced Councillors to re-consider.

Mayor Brian Bigger says council heard that the move was something the public clearly did not want.

The newly formed emergency services committee will now look at ways of holding those who light unsafe backyard fires accountable.
