CP Rail

Canadian Pacific Rail says four cars on a northbound train derailed around 6am this morning in Byng Inlet, just south of Britt.

Crews are working to clear the debris since Highway 529 is currently blocked by the rear of the train.

C-P Rail Media Rep, Andy Cummings, says two of the cars were empty, one was carrying lumber and the other was rail-car wheels.

There were no injuries, no leaks and no safety concerns.

Cummings says safety will be the main priority as crews work to restore the line and get traffic moving again.

CP hopes to get a locomotive to the rear to remove the part of the train which is blocking the road.

Cummings says it’s too early to determine the cause and there is no estimated time for the clean-up.
