ImmunizationRecord

By Angela Gemmill

The Sudbury & District Health Unit is making it easier for parents to report their child’s latest vaccination records.

The information can still be called or mailed-in, faxed or brought to the health unit….but parents can also take a picture of the yellow immunization card…fill out an online form and submit it on the website: www.sdhu.com.

Manager of Clinical and Family Services, Shannon Dowdall-Smith, says children ages four to 17, need to be protected from certain diseases before attending school.

It’s provincial legislation health officials are mandated to follow, but Dowdall-Smith says they’re flexible and mistakes happen.

She says if parents receive a notice and think it’s an error contact the health unit and they’re happy to correct the mistake.

Students could be suspended from school if their vaccination records aren’t up-to-date.

Reminder notices will be going out in February.
