Deer season is just around the corner, so Sudbury Police want to make sure that it is a safe hunting season.

Police say to always overpack, be prepared with clothing, footwear, food, water and a first-aid kit.

But with new technology, Sergeant Wade Maksymchuk says cell phones have become one of the most important items to carry.

He says they have been able to use GPS to track people to nearly their exact location.

Maksymchuk says another thing people don’t often think to bring is extra medication.

For those who rely on medication, it’s better to have extra than to get stuck out in the wilderness without it.

Maksymchuk says these may seem like common sense, but every year they deal with a number of calls for lost hunters.

Deer season opens on November 7th.
