UPDATE
On April 1, 2022, through the investigation it was determined that the man believed to be responsible for the shooting at Walmart was believed to be inside of a residential building on Melvin Street in Greater Sudbury.
Members of our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) attended the area in order to set up containment of the residence while Patrol Officers closed down Melvin Street at Mabel Avenue and Kathleen Street in order to allow ERU to focus on a peaceful resolution.
While ERU Officers were on containment, a man approached the building and was given something by another man who dropped the item out of the window of the unit where the man was believed to be hiding. Officers in the area detained the man as he walked away from the residence. The man was found to be in possession of a firearm. The 28 year old man was placed under arrest and transported to Police headquarters.

Residents living in the building were evacuated in order to ensure their safety and Negotiators began attempts to establish communications with the individuals inside of the unit where the man was believed to be.
Just after 2:30 p.m. a man exited the unit and surrendered to Police. The 26 year old man was not the man involved in the original incident however due to the possession of the firearm, he was taken into Police custody and transported to headquarters.
On the authority of a Feeney Warrant, members of ERU entered the residential unit, however the unit was empty.
As a result of the investigation, Detectives from the Major Crime Section of our Criminal Investigation Division applied for an Arrest Warrant for the man believed to be responsible for the shooting.
