An animal enforcement officer trying to carry-out her duties in Dowling was assaulted over the weekend.

Greater Sudbury Police say the officer was responding to a complaint of wandering dogs.

A loose dog was caught and put into the vehicle.

The dog’s owners tried to get it back and allegedly assaulted the officer in trying to retrieve the animal unlawfully from the vehicle.

Both a male and female were charged with assault and theft under $5,000.

The Rainbow District Animal Control and Shelter Services says there is a process in place should someone’s pet be apprehended.
