2015 Nominees for Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts Awards

Nine local artists have been shortlisted for the three categories of the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts awards, to be handed out next month in Greater Sudbury.

A panel of judges from the Sudbury Arts Council had to narrow down the field after a huge number of submissions.

Event Organizer Martin Lajeunesse says all disciplines of art were considered, which proved a challenge to choose the nominees from.

Each category had specific criteria, but overall each nominee had to have contributed to the development of the arts and culture sector across the community.

According to President of the Sudbury Arts Council, Linda Cartier, the three winners will each get bursaries to continue their work.

Lajeunesse says the bursary component helps raise the profile of arts and encourage artists to remain with their artistic pursuits.

The three winners will be announced at the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts Awards gala May 21st in the Vale Cavern at Science North.

Tickets are $50 each and are available at Artists on Elgin or through the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario website: www.letno.ca
