LU Cairn

Hundreds of First Nation people will gather in Ottawa this weekend for closing events of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the final report on residential schools.

In Sudbury a small group met on the Laurentian University campus today to honour survivors and demonstrate a commitment for all of Canada.

According to Northeast Rep for the United Church of Canada, Will Kunder, in 1986 church officials walked down a hill on campus to deliver the first apology.

The cairn is the heap of stones set up as a landmark.

For decades, 150-thousand First Nation children were taken from their families and forced to attend government schools…the Commission will release its final report early next week.
