In just five days -between last Friday and yesterday- Greater Sudbury Police have received 110 complaints about nuisances bears.

Since the bears have woken from their winter sleep, local officers have logged 720 complaints.

A lot of those calls came from residents in New Sudbury.

Police say black bears are hungry because of the poor berry crop this year.

As a result the bruins are coming into residential neighbourhoods looking for food.

That’s why the city has issued some garbage tips to help reduce human-bear interactions.

Anyone who sees a bear should call the M-N-R’s Bear Wise hotline 1-866-514-2327 or 9-1-1 if it’s an emergency and there is a threat to public safety.
