A local beach has been closed because of high bacteria levels.

The Health Unit took the step after routine water samples came back with higher than acceptable water quality standards at Nepahwin Park Beach.

Going into the water when bacteria is present in high concentrations puts swimmers at risk for infections if the water is swallowed, if it gets into your ears, eyes, or nose, or if it comes in contact with open wounds.

The Health Unit will notify the public when test results show the water is safe to swim in.
