The current heat wave is expected to be with us until at least mid week, so the Health Unit has some tips on how to beat the heat.

Likely the most important is to drink lots of water, avoid going out when the sun is at it’s hottest, avoid heavy meals, rest as much as possible but if you have to go outside to always wear a hat, sunscreen and sun glasses.

Health Promoter Jane Bulloch says the elderly and the very young are effected by the heat more than others.

Symptoms of heat related illness include rapid breathing, weakness or fainting, headache and confusion and being more tired that usual.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 30’s with the humidex closing in on 40 degrees.
