For the first time since 2006 there has been a confirmed case of the West Nile Virus in Greater Sudbury.

The Sudbury and District Health Unit says a test in an adult from the city came back positive yesterday.

SDHU says in previous years the virus had been confirmed in birds and mosquito pools, and a horse had tested positive in August this year.

The virus is passed through a bite from an infected mosquito and symptoms may include fever, headache, body ache, nausea, vomiting and a rash on the chest, stomach or back.

To date there have been 16 probable cases in 2015 in Ontario.
