A bit of light showers didn’t deter over 630 runners, walkers and dancers from taking part in the 5K CIBC Run for the Cure yesterday in Sudbury.

The annual event raised $95,047.42 locally, which helps the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation with research, education and advocacy.

Melanie Picard of Sudbury is a breast cancer survivor who participated.

She encourages younger women to get checked because breast cancer is no longer what she calls our “grandmother’s disease”.

The run took place all across Canada and is the largest single event in support of breast cancer initiatives.

Sudbury is the only site across the country which offers participants the chance to Zumba along the five kilometre route.
