An assault charge has been dropped against a Greater Sudbury Police officer.

Constable Christopher Labreche was charged after an incident at police headquarters in June 2014 involving Tanner Currie who was in custody for being intoxicated in a public place.

Currie alleges excessive force was used by the officer.

A video showed Constable Labreche slamming Currie’s face into a glass window, however the Crown Attorney’s Office withdrew the charge, concluding they would not be able to prove that the force used by the officer was not justified under the Criminal Code of Canada.
