Taxi

One City Councillor wants to get ahead of the game before Uber show up in Greater Sudbury and starts taking clients from local cab companies.

Deb McIntosh plans to bring a motion to city council next week asking city staff to review current taxi bylaws.

She wants to determine if or how the popular ride sharing service might work here.

McIntosh says the proactive measure comes after a local taxi operator brought the Uber issue to her attention.

Because Uber is not the same as a taxi, it doesn’t always require the same licensing or regulations but that’s all based on municipal bylaws.

Advertisements have already popped up around Sudbury, seeking drivers for Uber.

The review is expected early next year.
