Three members of the 2nd Battalion Irish Regiment of Canada marked their Sudbury unit’s 100th anniversary yesterday guarding a special monument.

October 15th marked the centennial anniversary of the reserve unit’s existence, as it was formed in 1915 to help serve during World War 1.

For the past month, three regiment members have made up the Ceremonial Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at the National War Museum in Ottawa.

It’s a duty many Canadian military units share, but the Irish Regiment requested this particular time to coincide with the milestone anniversary.

The light infantry reserve unit had its centennial celebration earlier this month in Sudbury.

The trio will spend one more week at their posts before returning to Sudbury.
