Two Found Dead In Paris Street Apartment Fire

Two bodies were found after an apartment fire was put out on Paris Street.

The fire happened early Sunday morning, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at the 99-unit building after it was out firefighters found two people dead in one of the units.

The Ontario Fire Marshals Office and Sudbury Police are now investigating.

“Crews were called there early this morning for reports of heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the units.” said Greater Sudbury Fire Service deputy chief Jesse Oshell.

“The occupant of the unit did evacuate safely.  And we were able to,  over the course of several hours,  get that fire under control and out.”

Oshell said once the fire was knocked down, tenants were able to safely return to their apartment units.

“We were able to return all but the unit affected back into the building. However, we did discover that there two individuals were deceased, were found deceased in the building. And as the result of the fire we have passed that investigation over to police services and the fire marshal’s office as a potential fatal fire,” Oshell continued.

Oshell said that at this time there is no confirmed cause of death for the two individuals. He said subsequent investigations by police and the fire marshal’s office will have to determine that.  No other information with respect to the deceased persons was released Sunday afternoon.

It is the second fatal fire in the last week in Sudbury with an elderly man passing away in a fire on Friday on Tedman Avenue in the Flour Mill.
