An official announcement from Warner Bros. TV, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said:

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

The Big Bang Theory has one of the best TV ensembles starting off in 2007 with Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard), and Kunal Nayyar (Raj), and later adding Mayim Bialik (Amy) and Melissa Rouch(Bernadette).

Heading into the final season, here are 5 things you may not know about The Big Bang Theory:

  1. Mayim Bialik knows science like her character. She has a PhD in neuroscience.
  2. Penny was originally called Katie and was played by Amanda Walsh. Test audiences didn’t like the character.
  3. “Soft Kitty” is a real song. Co-creator Bill Prady heard it at his daughter’s preschool, but it’s actually an old Polish lullaby from the 18th century.

4. Penny’s last name has never been revealed.

5. The word “bazinga” comes from writer and prankster Stephen Engel. One time he gave a Prady a grapefruit but it had been hollowed out. When Prady realized there was nothing in it, Engel screamed “Bazinga!”

Perhaps the final word word of the series will be “Bazinga.”

That last episode will air May 2019.
