Local workers will be affected with word that Sears Canada is cutting about 29-hundred jobs as part of its plan to restructure its business under court protection from creditors.

15 Sears Home stores will close including the one in Sudbury at 1499 Marcus Drive, the New Sudbury Centre store is safe for the time being.

The company is shutting down 59 locations in total and Business Professor at Cambrian College Brian Vendramin says it’s too early to say if Sears will rebound or this is the beginning of the end.

Vendramin says the reason behind the recent struggles may have to do with having a high turnover at CEO.

He hopes that places like Lowes and Home Depot will hire workers from Sears Home who will be laid off.

Sears Canada says it will try to complete its restructuring and aim to exit protection this year.
