Sudbury will not be the host city for the 2021 Canada Summer Games as the bid committee awarded the event to Niagara Region.

Co-Chair of the local bid committee, Darren Stinson says it’s a disappointing but it puts the city in a good position moving forward.

Mayor Brian Bigger says the process identified needs for the city and they will look to bid on provincial and national sporting events in the near future.

Sudbury was on a short list against Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo and Niagara.

The local bid committee will get a chance to sit down with the Canada Summer Games committee to talk about why the city wasn’t chosen.

The games happen every two years but won’t be back in Ontario until 2043.
