Recipients of the 11th annual YWCA Women Of Distinction Awards were announced today ahead of the gala to be held May 5th.

Six women and one group of two are honoured this year as the awards are based on outstanding achievements, impact, accomplishments and leadership in the community, home or work.

Executive Director of YWCA Sudbury, Marlene Gorman says it’s extremely important to recognize women today.

Chrisanne Daniel is the winner of the Young Woman of Distinction award for a number of reasons including the start up of a not for profit organization called Ladies Learning Code which teaches computer skills.

Recipient, Chantal Mayer-Crittenden, who is one of the youngest Directors at Laurentian University says award ceremonies like this are very important.

In 11 years of the Women Of Distinction Awards, 77 women or groups have been honoured.
