The final month of 2016 saw Sudbury’s unemployment rate rise to over eight per cent, tied for fourth highest among major Canadian cities.

According to Stats Can, the jobless numbers in the city sat at 8.1 per cent in December, up from 7.5 per cent the month before.

It’s the highest it’s been since July.

Across the country 53 thousand jobs were added but the unemployment rate still went up to 6.9 per cent from 6.8 per cent in November.
