Bribery charges against Pat Sorbara and Gerry Lougheed Jr. were back before the court today, as the crown and legal representation set up further dates, but it was what happened at the last appearance that had lawyers talking afterwards.

In November, outside of provincial court, Vern Brewer of the Federal Crowns Office stated, Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault sought certain benefits to run for the provincial Liberals.

Pat Sorbara’s representative, Brian Greenspan says since then Thibeault and the National Capital Office of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada have spoken, but there could be more dialogue.

Lougheed’s lawyer Michael Lacy, says it wasn’t that he made comments which upset the defense, it was what he said.

Lacy also says the comments suggest a certain state of affairs which from their perspective is different from their understanding.

They are waiting to see if Brewer will be removed from the trail.

A judicial pre-trial has been set for January and a judge from out of town may be brought in.
