It all happened so fast, one minute Mel Coloma was a Spice Girl, the next – she wasn’t.
She was just 18 years old when she was chosen out of hundreds of other “Wannabes”.
Back then, the Spice Girls were called “Touch” and her group name was supposed to be “Mel L”.

Instead, she was replaced with Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice and the group became the Spice Girls.

How did she find out she was dumped? She says, when she saw the “Wannabe” music video on TV for the first time. OUCH!!

‘My first thought was that the video was bizarre. Then Mel B’s face flashed up on the screen and everything fell into place..”

“This was the group I’d so nearly been a part of. I’d assumed it hadn’t come to anything because it had been two years and I’d never heard anything about Touch. But here they were.”

‘I remembered Mel B because she looked so striking and she had the gift of the gab. I didn’t remember Victoria or the others because there were hundreds of us at the audition”

Coloma explains the reason why she was replaced was because they claimed her voice was ‘too good’ and she would be better off pursuing a solo career

So what does 41 year old Mel do for a living now? Well, as soon as she knew her future with the girls was going nowhere, she joined another girl band that didn’t last very long. Now, she reportedly works in the British health service as an administrative worker. As for music? She doesn’t make millions, but her band “The Decanters” often sing at weddings and small gigs.
