When former Sudbury Mayor Jim Gordon created Lifeline Sudbury last fall he had no intention of staying on as Chair.

Gordon recently relinquished the top spot of the non-denominational, umbrella group which provides support, services or resources for various agencies helping sponsor refugees to the city.

Gordon says he was just to busy with other commitments, but will continue to sit on the Lifeline board as the representative for Sudbury Project Hope.

Sudbury Project Hope is working to raise funds for the sponsorship of two refugee families, set to arrive this spring.

Gordon called up another former Mayor, Dave Courtemanche, who accepted the position of Chairman of Lifeline Sudbury.

It’s not the first time Gordon has passed a leadership role on to Courtemanche.

It was Courtemanche who took over the Mayor’s job in 2003, when Gordon retired from municipal politics.

Gordon hopes Lifeline Sudbury will continue on long after the Syrian refugee crisis is over.
