Crime Stoppers Month. Sudbury-Rainbow Crime Stoppers. January 2016

By Angela Gemmill

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stopper has been in our community for 29-years.

In that time the non-profit program has helped police recover over $46-million in stolen property and illegal drugs….and close a lot of police cases.

The program provides a tip line for community members to call in information anonymously about crimes that have been committed or in progress.

Greater Sudbury Police Chief, Paul Pederson, says his officers have been able to close cases because of the information that’s come in from tipsters.

He says the partnership between police and Crime Stoppers is invaluable, but they also need the media’s help to request information.

O-P-P Superintendent Ken Leppert reassures tipsters that they will remain anonymous when they call, text or email their information.

Information that helps lead to arrests is then eligible for a financial reward.

Director of the Sudbury-Rainbow Crime Stoppers Board, Terry Ames, says community support is essential because it’s through this fundraising they can pay out rewards for tips.

January is Crime Stoppers Month.

The Sudbury Rainbow program has a number of fundraising and promotional events planned, including the annual gala February 13th.
