The Canadian Coast Guard is breaking up ice along a well-used shipping route in northern Georgian Bay.

The operations are meant to help commercial shipping in the Great Lakes.

The Coast Guard has ice-breaking vessels and crews out near the Lafarge Terminal in Whitefish River, just north of Little Current.

Ice conditions around where ice-breaking operations are going on, are very unstable.

The Canadian Coast Guard and its partners, the U-S Coast Guard and the O-P-P warn everyone to stay away from unsafe ice in these areas.
