TrailClosed

Local trails and waterways are not yet ready for snowmobilers to venture out on yet.

Greater Sudbury Police are sending out that reminder after officers rescued a female snowmobiler and her son from a swamp near Garson Lake Sunday night.

The woman had gone out despite inclement weather and freezing temperatures.

The snow machine got stuck on trails between Garson and Hanmer.

Police triangulated her cell phone for the location, which was six kilometres from the closest roadway.

While officers were on their way, the woman’s son showed up to try to get the snowmobile out.

Both were treated in hospital for exposure.

Police say there is not enough snow on the trials, and hidden dangers lie below the thin layer of snow already on the ground.
