Cambrian College has a new partnership that will help over two dozen students every year be able to attend the post-secondary school.

The Joyce Foundation, created by Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Joyce, donated $2-million for an endowment fund.

It will provide a yearly entrance scholarship for 26 students.

Cambrian’s Director of Development, Darlene Palmer says this is the largest single gift in the history of the school’s bursary and awards program.

The bursary will be distributed based on students need and a 250-word essay.

If recipients remain in good standing with the school after their first year they can apply for it for their second and third year as well.

Palmer says Joyce wants to provide opportunities for young students who may have similar backgrounds to his.

Joyce grew up in a poor family but went on to be the driving force behind the success of the Tim Horton’s franchise.

Palmer says it will make a significant difference in the lives so many students, who may not get to go to college otherwise because of the cost.
