Gelinas Says "Northerners Want Their Helicopter Back"

Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas rose in Queens Park this past week to make a statement about the OPP Search and Rescue Helicopter.

In April of this year it was announced the helicopter would be moved to Orillia, where the OPP’s other helicopter is located, a move that could save the OPP about 254 thousand dollars a year.

It would also allow the helicopter to be active more hours of the day.

Gelinas says it should be more about safety.

Gelinas also says she has been asking about a review that was done looking into search and rescue in Northern Ontario and now is questioning if the report was ever done.
