Officials at Health Sciences North are taking the necessary steps to address a surge of patients needing to be admitted.

It happened on Sunday and again yesterday…leaving hospital staff this morning looking to find beds for 35 more patients than usual on a weekday.

H-S-N Chief Operating Officer Joe Pilon says it will be a collaborative effort, and hopes to be through the worst by Friday.

He says non-urgent surgeries are being cancelled and they are working with regional hospitals to arrange for the transfer of out-of-town patients back to their community.

Residents are advised that all critical urgent care services continue to be available, but longer than usual delays can be expected for non-urgent care at the Emergency Department.
