The City of Greater Sudbury is getting almost $2.6-million from the provincial government for this year’s portion of the gas tax.

Sudbury M-P-P Glenn Thibeault says the Ontario Gas Tax Program, helps communities invest in infrastructure and public transit.

Smaller communities without public transit systems use gas tax funding towards improving roads and bridges.

Mayor Brian Bigger says in previous years, Sudbury has used its portion of the gas tax to add accessible features to all its buses and rehabiliting the current Lorne Street transit and fleet centre.

Thibeault says investing in public transit, not only helps the environment but also the economy, as it makes the city more accessible.

In the past 12-years, the Ontario government has provided almost $29-million dollars to Greater Sudbury from the Gas Tax Program.
