Major Ray Wiss

By: Nick Liard

Canadian Armed Forces and Sudbury native Major Ray Wiss made a stop at Algonquin Road Public School today to share his experiences in Afghanistan.

While Wiss was stationed in Afghanistan he documented his experiences and published a book called FOB DOC: A doctor on the Front Lines in Afghanistan which went on to make Amazon’s Top 100 Books list of 2009.

Wiss says the most important thing to take away is the need to be informed.

Wiss says his goal is to continue to get people to remember, although he was very pleased with the amount of youth engagement.

Wiss is recognized internationally as one of the most influential physicians in Canada for introducing ultrasound technology into Canada’s emergency response practice.
