OncologyConference

The future of cancer care includes more than just improvements in treatment.

Two-hundred health care providers and community partners from across Northeastern Ontario gathered in Sudbury today for the day-long Regional Oncology Conference at the Holiday Inn.

Event Co-Chair, and Clinical Coordinator of Heath Sciences North’s Supportive Care Program, Jessica Diplock says its meant to learn about emerging issues in cancer care.

The conference included three guest speakers whose discussions focused on hot topics in cancer care right now.

Diplock says there are many aspects to a patient’s cancer journey and the future would include more than just improvements in chemo or radiation therapy.

One’s overall cancer care may include how that care is delivered, palliative care and incorporating cultural differences.

The theme was on patient-centred care and making the entire cancer journey better for patients.
