The new state-of-the art elementary school off Falconbridge Road officially opened today.

Five-hundred-20 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 are enrolled at Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School, which also has over 40 staff members.

The school, beside St Charles College, is part of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board campus model, where students remain in one location for their time at elementary and secondary school.

Chair of the Sudbury & District Catholic School Board Jody Cameron says this is what the board envisioned from the beginning.

The board consolidated the former St Andrew, St Bernadette and St Raphael Schools, which all closed down over the past year following an accommodation review.

Director of Education at Catholic Board, Joanne Bénard is thrilled with how the construction turned out.

She calls it a bright, beautiful, inviting school.

Holy Trinity Principal Diana Salvador says students and staff are settling in and feeling at home since classes started in September.

The school has a number of environmentally friendly, green features including LED lighting, solar panels, high efficiency ventilation, water heaters and rainwater harvesting.
