Ontario College Of Teachers

In an effort to help teachers in Ontario better spot child abuse and neglect the Ontario College of Teachers has released their Professional Advisory-Duty to Report.

The advisory comes on the heels of a coroners inquest into the death of a 5-year old Toronto boy who suffered years of mistreatment by his grandparents.

College Deputy Registrar, Joe Jamieson says it’s important for teachers to know there are resources out there like the Children’s Aid Society.

Olwen Lavoie Director of Services for the Children’s Aid Society in Sudbury and Manitoulin says the goal is to encourage teachers to not be afraid to call.

Over 171 thousand Ontarians report concerns over abuse and neglect every year, with the majority of the calls coming from police officers and teachers.
