The International Mine Rescue Competition has been held in Australia, the United States, Europe and Asia, but never in Canada, until now.

The 10th bi-annual competition will be held on Vale property in Sudbury August 19th to the 26th, 2016.

Candys Ballanger-Michaud President and CEO of Workplace Safety North says it is a fun event, but one to also show off the job mine rescue workers face every day.

IMRC Canada 2016 Coordinator Alex Gryska says Sudbury’s mining roots played a major factor in securing the competition and  the week long competition will be a crowd friendly event.

Ballanger-Michaud says it’s also a great opportunity for students who are thinking about a similar career to see the profession first hand.

Over 500 people from 30 teams and 20 countries will embark come to Sudbury when the competition begins.
