Sudbury has set up an advisory panel to coordinate resources for Syrian refugees who choose to make Greater Sudbury their new home.

The Refugee and Immigration Advisory Panel will pool together different groups to provide aid to those fleeing the war-torn region.

The panel will bring together schools, church groups, other agencies and individuals who want to assist families coming to Sudbury.

While no city funds were set aside, others have offered donations and the panel will point refugees in the right direction for financial help.

Two city councillors will sit on the panel, along with reps from the multicultural, education and faith communities.

Other communities across Canada are also creating similar advisory groups.
