Not what you want to hear on the last long weekend of the summer.

The Health Unit has been advised by the Ministry of Environment that water samples taken from Lake Nepahwin and the Upper French River have tested positive for blue-green algae.

The blooms have a pea soup appearance, foul smell and can produce toxins that could lead to skin irritations and if swallowed cause diarrhea and vomiting.

Meantime…signs have been posted warning against swimming at the Kagawon Village Beach on Manitoulin Island.

Water samples there showed unacceptable levels of bacteria.
