Health Unit

Health inspectors are looking into whether the Laurentian University Beach on Lake Nepahwin has blue-green algae or not.

Water samples are currently being tested and until those results come back the Sudbury & District Health Unit has posted signs advising users the water is unsafe to swim in.

The toxin produces blooms and scum, especially around the shoreline, which is pea-green and gives off a foul smell.

The blooms can move around the waterway due to wind and water movement.

It can irritate skin and cause illness if ingested.
