The province is increasing support to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in an effort to stop sexual violence altogether.

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the Ontario government will provide 1.1-million-dollars a year for the next three years.

Of that, the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centre at Health Sciences North will get over 34 thousand dollars.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says there are an average of one-thousand sexual assaults a day across Canada, but only 33 of those are reported to police — figures she wants to see change.

The majority of the funding will go to enhancements of existing specialized counselling services.
