The Emergency in Copper Cliff has been downgraded to Level 1.

All roads have re-opened & the alarm turned off.

The A.C.T previously in place has been lifted.

There will likely be an emergency news conference later today to provide details to the local media.

There is an emergency in Copper Cliff after hazardous material was released in the air.

Vale has declared a Level Three Emergency after Nitrogen Dioxide leaked at the mining site.

In a Level 3 Alert – (ACT)  Always go indoors, Close all doors and windows and Turn off any furnaces, air conditioning or other air intakes.

Nitrogen Dioxide can affect the respiratory system and can be fatal in large doses.

There are numerous road closures including Big Nickel Mine Road and Municipal Road 55, the Lasalle Extension at Frood Road and Elm Street.

Police are asking the public not to call 9-1-1 to request information.
