A transit pilot program for seniors hit a snag this week, but it might not be the end of the plans.

The project would have provided free public transit to seniors on Mondays during off-peak hours, from 10 to 2:30pm and after 6:30pm.

Some City Councillors from outside wards worried that wasn’t enough time for residents to make a trip into the city’s core and back.

There were also concerns with it being just for seniors.

The decision was deferred while city staff look into several matters, but the issue will return in September.

If passed the free transit program would also take effect on Handi-Transit.

The idea was an election campaign promise of Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger.
