Greater Sudbury has one of the highest rental apartment vacancy rates in the province, behind Thunder Bay and Windsor.

According to the most recent figures released by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the local rate sits at 4.6%, which is a fall from the 5% Sudbury had at this time last year.

Improving employment conditions for younger households is just one of the reasons for apartment rental demand across Ontario.

The cost to rent a two bedroom apartment in the city increased by roughly $45 over the past year, and now costs $986 on average.

In just eight years, our city has moved from one of the lowest to one of the highest rental vacancy rates.
