France Gelinas

Nickel Belt M-P-P France Gelinas is calling on the provincial government to step in and provide more for the region near Gogama after a major train derailment several months ago.

On March 7th, 33 rail cars came off the tracks, dumping millions of litres of crude oil into the Makami River.

Gelinas says the area looks like a wasteland, with all vegetation stripped away to just rocks and water.

She says the area needs to be rebuilt and she wants the government to step up to the plate to help.

But Gelinas feels the lack of support is because Gogama is far up North and easy for the Toronto politicians to forget.

Residents of the area rely on fishing as a way of life and Gelinas says they all just want to know if the fish are okay to eat.

She says neither the federal nor provincial government will tell residents if the fish are safe for consumption.
