Ticks

By Angela Gemmill

If your outdoor summer plans involve traipsing through grassy or wooded areas you need to check for ticks afterwards.

The Sudbury & District Health Unit is warning residents the parasitic, blood-sucking insects are in season and the black-legged ones (deer ticks) can pass Lyme disease on to humans.

Environmental Support Officer, Jon Groulx, says ticks leave a bulls-eye mark on skin when they bite.

If any ticks are found on a person or a pet use tweezers to remove and then put it in a container to take for testing at the health unit.

Groulx suggests wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants and wearing insect repellant for those who plans to spend time in wooded or grassy areas.
